John A Harris (President)
Certified Forester, ISA Certified Arborist, ISA-Florida Registered Tree Grader, Certified Landscape Inspector, Certified Mangrove Pruner, Certified Xeriscape Contractor, Trained Tree and Landscape Appraiser. John has been in the Forestry, Arboriculture and landscape industries for over 20 years and is the founder of Earth Advisors.
His education includes: Master of Business Administration degree in Organizational Management from Syracuse University, New York; a Master of Science degree in Forest Economics and a Bachelor of Science degree in Resources Management from the College of Environmental Science and Forestry, Syracuse, NY; Associate of Applied Science in Natural Resources from Morrisville Agricultural and Technical College, Morrisville, NY. He was inducted into Lambda Alpha International Honorary Land Economics Society in 1997.
John has owned landscape maintenance, landscaping and tree care companies, and he also worked as a consultant in Utility Forestry in the U.S. and Canada. He has additionally provided management consulting for a number of nurseries, landscape contractors and tree care companies in South Florida. John has been an Associate Professor at Miami-Dade Community College and Seminole County Community College, as well as a vocational teacher with the Miami-Dade County School Board. He has provided educational workshops and seminars for over 30 organizations including the Society of American Foresters, Florida Urban Forestry Council, Landscape Inspectors Association of Florida, Fairchild Tropical Garden, and the Vermont Urban Forestry Council. John has appeared on TV in Florida and New York as an expert Forester and Arborist. His writings have been published in newspapers, magazines and trade journals regarding Forestry, Arboriculture and urban landscape maintenance.
Darlene Harris (Vice President/Senior Biologist)
Darlene Harris has a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Mansfield University, Mansfield, Pennsylvania. After a four year career as a Parks Naturalist in the Pennsylvania State Park system, Darlene moved to South Florida in 1985. She has worked in environmental resource management and education for public and private agencies in South Florida for 22 years. Darlene is intimately familiar with the Everglades plants and animals, and recently spent a one month residency in Everglades National Park. She has hands-on experience with many endangered plant and animal preservation projects, including the gopher tortoise, burrowing owl, indigo snake, and sea turtle tagging and nest relocation. As Vice President/Senior Biologist of Earth Advisors, Inc., Darlene develops and facilitates conferences and education programs, manages budgets and finances for the company, and represents the company for meetings, task forces, and community organizations.
Taking a leadership role as a member of local, state, and national organizations, Darlene demonstrates her concern for the environment, ethics, and political issues. Her commitments include Kiwanis Club of Hollywood; appointed member of the Broward County Land Preservation and Acquisition Advisory Board; past Chair of the City of Hollywood Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Arts Advisory Board; and past President of the League of Women Voters of Broward County.
Darlene’s goal is to foster environmental learning, values, and stewardship to people of all ages, abilities, and ethnicity to enhance the quality of life in her neighborhood, state, and global community.
